    What does it take to get residents, businesses, non-governmental organizations and city government to work together to make their communities great?  How has the City of Seattle been so successful at practising neighbourhood engagement since 1988?

    The City of Edmonton's Office of Great Neighbourhoods has invited community engagement expert Jim Diers to meet with Edmontonians on November 17, 18 and 19, 2009.
    This is your chance to hear from someone who has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to inspiring people to get involved with their communities and with decisions that affect their lives.

    EAST Community Evening with Jim -- November 17, 2009, at the Santa Maria Goretti Centre (11050 - 90 Street), from 5 to 9 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. No cost. Registration is required.

    With winds gusting to 130km/h, the storm on Saturday caused a lot of damage in Ward 3. Councillor Caterina has asked me to let you know that clean up bins will be at the following locations;

    * Beverly Heights -111 Avenue and 42 Street at the Beverly Heights Community Hall
    * Highlands School -114 Avenue and 61 Street

    The bins may be used for any tree debris that the storm has caused. Only trees and branches will be accepted in the bins.
    *please note that these bins are intended for “private” trees. It is not necessary to clean up city owned trees as they will be picked up and disposed of by city crews. However if needed, city trees may be disposed of in these bins as well.*

    Other options for tree disposal include:
    Regular Garbage Collection: Branches can be set out for regular garbage collection if they are bundled, no longer than 1.2 metres (4 ft) and no heavier than 20 kg (44 lbs.). The trees will be mulched and used for composting.

    Edmonton Waste Management Centre: Trees and brush can also be taken to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre at no charge. The EWMC is located at 13111 Meridian (1st) Street NE. Open 7:30am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm, Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays.

    Eco Stations: Larger trees can be taken to an Eco Station. Charges apply and depend on the volume. Eco Stations are open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6:30pm and are located at:
    South: 5150-99 Street (entrance on 99 Street only)
    North: 11440-143 Street.
